Leeoma Merle Short Caldwell was born to Jessie Elva Norvell and Samuel Webster Short on July 22, 1935, in Sickles, OK.  She moved to Choctaw County in 1942.  She then attended Hugo schools and was a graduate of the 1953 class. Leeoma met her husband Joe Caldwell while she worked at the family restaurant.  Joe was captured by Leeoma.  They married in 1955 and Leeoma was very blessed to have Joe as her companion for 53 years.

Leeoma became a Christian at a young age, and she loved the Lord with all her heart.  She called up the Lord many times in her life and always waited for Him to lead her.  She faithfully served as a member of Clayton Avenue Baptist for 47 years teaching classes for all ages.  She was currently a member of the First Baptist Church where she continued to serve the Lord.  Her church family held a dear place in her heart.  She loved each of them. Leeoma’s first job was driving a school bus, she was the first woman school bus driver for Hugo and Choctaw County.  She worked for Kiamichi Tourism and the Choctaw County Tag office.  She became a realtor in 1984, Leeoma said it was the most rewarding job.   She served as the secretary and president of the Chamber of Commerce.  She won citizen of the year when she was president.  She served on the Rotary Club and was president; and she also served on the Little Dixie board for almost 20 years. She was on the board of Choctaw Electric and Western Farmers as well. Leeoma lived life to the fullest and she did things her way.  She was always ready to go if someone had a place to travel to.
