Graveside memorial services with full military honors for Lanny Larue Bates will be held in the Bill Darrough Pavilion at at Mt. Olivet Cemetery on Monday, January 19, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Lanny, age 59 of Hugo, OK died on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 in Hugo, OK. After a long journey, Lanny Larue Bates has been welcomed home. His final battle ended on January 13, 2009. A life long resident of Hugo, OK, Lanny was born on November 25, 1949 in Antlers, OK, the youngest son of Leon Norman and Lorene Margaret Bates. Lanny proudly served in the United States Marine Corp and was a Vietnam Veteran. The issue of returning veterans was of great concern to him. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved the outdoors doors. He especially loved his dogs, Ebony, Murphy, Chelsea, Libby, Katie, Cow Dog and Fred. Our hearts are broken in grief and will be long in healing. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, glen Forrest and Susie Ella Pitts Bates. Lanny is survived by his wife: Wanda; brother: Larry L. Bates and sister: Carolyn Sue Holder; nephew: Jesse Holder and niece: Robin Holder Pillars, Stan Pillars and beloved great-niece: Micki Pillars. Special to Lanny were Bobby Payne, Jerry Barnett, Chris Castoe, Ruby Glenn and many others. Family and friends are invited to sign the guest book or send private condolences.
