Funeral services for James Browning will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 10:00 pm. at First Baptist Church, Hugo, Oklahoma with Pastor Byron Smith officiating; burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. James passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023, in Hugo, Oklahoma at the age of 92.
James Browning was born on October 6, 1930, in Hugo, Oklahoma to Robert and Viola (McLemore) Browning, and had lived in this community for the last 28 years.
James served in the U.S. Navy and was a Koren War Veteran. He was passionate about volunteering and serving people. He was a member of Choctaw Memorial Auxiliary and the VFW. He was a deacon at the First Baptist Church. James also managed the Hugo Heritage Railroad and was a Mason. He donated and supported the Hugo PRCA Rodeo and always enjoyed the annual rodeo and homecoming.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean Marie; one son, Phillip Browning; brothers, Carl Browning, Jack Browning and Charles Browning; sisters, Bonnie Faye Higginbotham and Geraldine Browning
James is survived by grandson, Phillip Browning of Portland, OR; nephews, Wayne R.L. Higginbotham and wife Molly and Richard Eric Higginbotham and wife Jan both of Hugo, OK; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 29, 2023, at 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM. at the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home in Hugo. OK.
