George Robert Mayfield Funeral services for George Robert Mayfield will be held at the First Christian Church on Monday, January 19, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Jim Neeland and Rev. Roger Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, in Hugo, OK. George Mayfield, age 82, of Hugo, OK died on Thursday, January 15, 2009 in Paris, TX. George Robert Mayfield was born on September 11, 1926 in Norman, OK the son of Robert Bland and Agnes Lois (Evans) Mayfield. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. He then joined the U.S. Air Force and served from 1946 to 1954 during the Korean War. He married Mary Louise Knox on August 3, 1957 in Hugo, OK. George had lived in this area since 1954 and was a member of the First Christian Church in Hugo, OK. George taught school at the Ft. Towson School system for 17 years while working on his Masters Degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in School Administration. After receiving his degree, in the fall of 1975, he became the Principal of Booker T. Washington School in the Hugo School System and was there for many years before his retirement. He was a member of the Ft. Towson Lions Club and was a Charter member of the Board for Youth Services where he served for twenty-five years before retiring in 2005. George was preceded in death by his parents. George is survived his wife of 51 years: Mary Louise Mayfield of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law: Samuel Ray and Debby Mayfield of Wylie, TX, and Randy Lee and Londi Mayfield of Hugo, OK; grandchildren: Summer and Landon Logan of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Jerrad Mayfield and Levi Mayfield both of Hugo, OK, Samantha Mayfield and Casey Mayfield both of Wylie, Texas; one brother: Eugene Mayfield and wife Francis of New Johnsonville, TN; one sister: Theresa Ferriera of Texarkana, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to sign the guest book or send private condolences.
