Barbara Wylene Napier of Hugo, passed away on July 27, 2023, in Hugo after a brief decline in health. She was born on July 30, 1949, in McAlester, Ok to Wiley E. Napier and Odelia Mae (Shaw) Napier. Wylene was married to Clint Merida and later in life married Eddie Smith. After a diverse career path, she worked for many years and retired from the Choctaw Nation in Hugo.
Wylene was a loving mother and grandmother, always there for her children and grandchildren, who will dearly miss her. Throughout her life she found constant companionship with her pets, and maintained beautiful flower beds and plants, always eager to take in abandoned animals, and share cuttings and seeds from her favorite plants. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Wylene was a very talented cook, often making favorite family dishes on request.
Wylene is survived by family including Todd Merida and wife Toni of Gore, Ok, Matt Merida and wife Aspen of Valliant, Ok, Paige Merida of Antlers, Ok, Jason Merida and wife Val of Sobol, Ok and eight grandchildren. Also survived by sisters Brenda Dodson of LaQuinta, CA, Debbie Thomas of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Stacey Weirick of Lenexa, KS, and brother Wiley Napier of Antlers, OK.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Marcia Napier and husband Eddie Smith.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 11, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel. Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 10am at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
