Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home started out in 1926 as Campbell Funeral Home, which functioned as a family Funeral Home and Ambulance Service. In 1958, Bill Lampton purchased the funeral home, thus making it Lampton-Campbell Funeral Home. In 1972, Jim Mills acquired Lampton-Campbell Funeral Home, renaming it Lampton-Mills Funeral Home. A few years later in 1976, Coffey Funeral Home, also in Hugo, was acquired by Jim Mills, enabling him with two locations in Hugo. In 1985, the two locations were combined at 216 E. Jackson Street in Hugo as Lampton-Mills & Coffey, where the funeral home facilities continue to this day. In 1994, Don Prater became General Manager of the funeral home, making it Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home.In 2006, Shain Family Funeral Service, Inc. bought the funeral home, thus bringing it back as a family-owned funeral home in the community of Hugo.
