Mable Dell Wettstain

Mabel Dell Ingram Wettstain, 103, of Hugo, OK went to be with her Lord Sunday April 1, 2012 at her son’s home in Hugo. Mabel Dell was born on January 23, 1909 in Chambers, KY to the late James Franklin and Nannie Dora Remmington Ingram. She was a life-long member and active (as a young woman) in the Blackford Baptist Church. She will join her husband, Milton and a host of loved ones in interment at the church cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband Milton Wettstain who died in December 1973, twin daughters who died in infancy, a sister Inez Ingram Gibbs and a son in law Wesley Wells. Mabel Dell will be missed by all who knew her because she was loved by everyone she met. Wherever she lived, whether in Kentucky, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee or Oklahoma she developed a unique bond with the people with whom she came in contact and she kept those relationships alive wherever she went.

People in Kentucky and Indiana may remember the retail stores which Milton and Mabel Dell owned and where they made their living. Possessing a strong work ethic, Mabel Dell also worked at clothing stores in Owensboro, KY and Evansville, IN as a sales lady. At one time she owned a beauty shop in Hawesville, KY. Milton and Mabel Dell loved to fish in the Atlantic while they lived in Florida. Her grit and determination enabled her to land a 35 pound sea bass by hauling it across the bank after she tired while trying to reel it in. Mabel Dell loved to crochet. A piece of her handwork is on display at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C. Reading and quilting were favorite pastimes of hers as well as gardening and working outdoors.

Survivors include three children Helen Wells of Clarksville, TN, Wallace Eugene Wettstain and his wife Martha of Hugo, OK and Wilma Wettstain Kaplan and her husband Ron of Falls Church, VA; four grandchildren James Wells and his wife Cathy of Clarksville, TN, David Wells and his wife Debbie of Cedar Hill, TN, Kristine Kaplan Peterkin and her husband Kevin of Falls Church, VA and Keith Kaplan and his wife of Susan of Arlington, VA; five great grandchildren Anissa Wells Massey and husband Brian of Seymour, TN, Helen Wells Gregory and husband Robert of Springfield, TN, Nate Peterkin of Falls Church, VA, Adam Peterkin of Falls Church, VA and Kelly Kaplan of Arlington, VA; three great great grandchildren Stetson Wells, Jasmin Gregory and Sierra Gregory and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Gibson & Son Funeral Home in Hawesville, KY. Burial will be in Blackford Baptist Church Cemetery. Mabel Dell’s family will be greeting family and friends Friday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am until service time.
